Edward Mitchell Bannister has a beautiful and simple why of displaying a certain peace and tranquility through his paintings. He does an amazing job of using a variety of colors and incorporating great lights and darks. He also captures the element of depth without painting with a distinct edge. I must have scrolled through about 75 of his amazing landscapes before I found this one. When I found his paintings I knew that I would make the connection with Huckleberry Finn. Mark Twain gives Huck a relaxed and laid-back personality. Huck is a character who doesn't like to be bothered or burdened with nonessential tasks. At the same time, Huck has a sense of adventure. He believes in living according to his own morals and he has a good sense of right and wrong. This painting has the same sense of relaxation that Huck possesses. It also captures the type of landscape that I pictured when I read about the Mississippi River and the surrounding lands.
